Oliver Cromwell was Lord Protector of the Commonwealth of England, Scotland and Ireland between 1653 - 1658. Considered both a 'regicidal dictator' and a 'hero of liberty', Cromwell is one of the most controversial figures in the history of the British Isles.
The coin features the Latin inscription "OLIVAR D G RP ANG SCO ET HIB &c PRO" which translates as "Oliver, by the Grace of God of the Republic of England, Scotland, Ireland etc. Protector".
